Having established nature as an overall regenerative theme for the DLR project, local artists Tim Maslen and Jennifer Mehra evolved this concept into a scheme which turned the organic shape of the bridge structure into a seemingly living sculpture. A blanket of giant leaves cast into the transparent polycarbonate bridge covering creates an illusion of nature crossing the rail tracks linking Carmen Street into the park. This idea is extended further with a series of over-sized coloured leaves fixed to the underside of the glazed platform canopies as if they had been blown from the bridge. Walking from the bridge towards Chrisp Street even the shadows would play a part in the nature theme, with small metal sculptures applied at a high level to the walls of the industrial units, lit in such a way as to cast "leaf" and "grass" images to the walls. Crowning the entrance to Carmen Street, coloured "grass" sculptures have been proposed for the roofs of the industrial units. These would be lit at night to provide a beacon for the route through to the park. http://www.langdonparkdlr.co.uk/design.html
